We're Halfway Through March

Time is flying-- we're already halfway through March! It was a bittersweet weekend. We said goodbye to Ryan, our wonderful server who has been with us for over a year and a half. He is heading to California to play with a band that is starting its tour next week, so while we wish him the best, we're sure going to miss him!

Needless to say, we're now hiring-- looking for a server to work lunches/brunch 6 days/week plus Friday nights. It's a great opportunity for someone looking for day work (3-4 hours/day) who has another night job or is going to school at night. We also offer paid health insurance. Can't beat that! You can apply in person or online.

Our March Wine Dinner is next week, so if you're thinking of coming be sure to reserve early: 371-7976.

Hope to see you soon--

Cheers!

The Times They Are A-Changin'

More changes coming our way!

As we transition to our new space in Argenta this summer, we will now only offer dinner at our current space on Friday nights. No more Saturday night dinners. Saturday nights have never been steady for us, and unfortunately we've never gotten them off the ground enough to even break even. And, with such a small staff, we just can't work everyone 7 days a week. We all need a day off. So, since we're now open for Sunday Brunch, we're closing on Saturday nights.

Speaking of Sunday Brunch-- it's a hit! Each week is better than the last, and yesterday our Sunday Brunch sales were higher than 3 of our Lunches last week! Why hadn't we thought of this sooner???

We have 2 private dinners this week at the cafe'-- one on Wednesday, the other on Thursday nights. This is what we are aiming to do is to book as many private dinners as we can. So if you have a party coming up and want the whole award-winning restaurant to yourself, just give me a call: 372-7976.

Cheers!

Speaking of Argenta...

I've had a lot of people ask me lately how it's going in Argenta.

It's rolling right along.

Our architects/designers are meeting with the Historical Commission this Thursday to hopefully get the plans passed and start the construction. Because the building is on the National Historic Registry, everything has to be passed first. But, as of right now, we're still on schedule to open in June. Of course, it all depends on how fast the construction goes, and judging from our last experience in our current space, it could take longer than planned as electricians, plumbers, and contractors seem to work on their own schedules :{

In any case, we will be up and running in Argenta in Summer 2008, barring any major snags between now and then.

Cheers!

The News is Out!

Big News! We won Runner-Up for Best Overall Restaurant in the 2008 Arkansas Times Readers' Choice Awards! Hooray! Brave New, Trios, Ferneau are the other winners in Best Overall Restaurant-- we're in good company! Nothing like a great round of free press, and it's great to be recognized by our customers.

The issue comes out this Thursday, so we are planning on rocking and rolling this weekend (including Valentine's Day Dinner), so if you're planning on coming in for dinner, be sure to call and get a reservation.

We hope to ride this great wave of publicity as we transition from downtown Little Rock to Argenta North Little Rock.

Cheers!

February's Here

Wow! Another month has started. We had our first Sunday Brunch today-- it went well! Our Sous Chef Austin waited tables with me, and Chef Jason did his magic in the kitchen. Austin has a lot of front-of-the-house experience, too, and he's happy to make the extra money.

Annaliese and Sophia were our artists today at brunch. You will probably see them painting in the artist corner soon, as they both love to paint and love the attention. Annaliese painted a heart for CAR's silent auction coming up February 9th, and then they both worked on valentines. Ah, the joys of childhood!

We have a big announcement next week-- let's just say an early thank you for your vote!!

Hope to see you soon--

Cheers!

It's Cold Out There, But Warm In Here

Brrrr... it's a cold one today. Unlike a lot of downtown businesses, we're open today, MLK day, so if you're off work or even at work, come on down for a delicious (warm) lunch in the hottest spot in town.

We made the leap to Sunday Brunch-- we'll start that on Sunday, February 3, 11am-2pm. We do not want to offer the "usual hotel brunch fare," so we're going the creperie way focusing on savory and sweet crepes. We'll also have quiche and our popular panini, salads, and soups. We have our Sunday beer and wine license, so mimosas are definitely on the menu. Nothing quite like an incredible crepe and mimosa to end the week right!

As we get ready for our move to Argenta in June, we'll be restructuring, so there will be even more changes in our hours and operation in our current space. Unfortunately, we never could get dinner off the ground, so we're looking at ways to cut the overhead and find ways to generate revenue as we coast out the months until our move.

Hope to see you soon--

Cheers!

Boy oh Boy!

It's a boy! No wonder I've had such a hard time : ) He's looking good and moving a lot. Now if he'll just let me get some sleep...

We were closed this past week on Thursday for the first time in two years. It was bittersweet, because while we enjoyed the time off, it was also like letting go of the old way. It's in with the new, in so many more ways than one!

Veronica is no longer with us. I'm taking over the catering myself, and I'm ready to roll. I'm focusing on private parties in-house, so if you know anyone looking for a space, send them my way. I'm determined to break into the pharmaceutical rep market, both for lunches and private dinners. If you know pharmaceutical reps (or are one yourself), we are now doing a rewards program where we give $1 in credit for each pharmaceutical rep's contact information, with no limit as to how many you send us. We'll keep up with your points, and at the end of the month we'll send you your gift card with your credits. You can use your gift card however and whenever you'd like. Call me or email me if you have the contacts! catering@starvingartistcafe.net 372-7976

Hope to see you soon--

Cheers!
